Itinerary

Day 1Istanbul to Izmir Flight and Ephesus Tour (L)

Your 2 Days Ephesus and Pamukkale Tour begins early in the morning with a 5:00 AM hotel pick-up in Istanbul and a smooth transfer to the airport for your one-hour flight to Izmir. From the very beginning, the journey is arranged to feel easy and well-coordinated, allowing you to focus on the experience rather than the logistics.

Upon arrival in Izmir, your local team welcomes you and transfers you to the office in Selcuk Town. At 9:30, your guide meets you and leads you to your vehicle for the day’s Ephesus Tour. During the drive toward Ephesus, your guide shares a helpful introduction to the region, giving you context about the area, the country, and the remarkable history you are about to step into.

As you arrive at Ephesus, the first sight is the impressive Magnesia Gate, once one of the grand entrances to the ancient city. Seeing this ancient gateway sets the tone beautifully, giving you the feeling of crossing from the modern world into one of the most powerful archaeological sites in Turkey.

From here, your guided downhill walk through Ephesus begins. The route leads you through some of the city’s most treasured landmarks, including the Odeon, the elegant Celsus Library, the Temple of Hadrian, the Trajan Fountain, and the magnificent Great Theater. Every step reveals another layer of Roman life, from public gatherings and intellectual culture to architecture that still feels astonishing today.

The Great Theater is one of the most memorable highlights of the day. With seating for around 24,000 people, it once hosted huge crowds and remains one of the best-preserved monuments in the city. Standing inside this vast ancient theater creates a real sense of awe, especially with the knowledge that it is believed to be the place where St. Paul preached to the Ephesians.

After exploring the ruins of Ephesus, the tour continues to the Virgin Mary House, a peaceful and deeply meaningful site set in a quiet natural atmosphere. For many visitors, this stop brings a more reflective and spiritual feeling to the day, offering a calm contrast after the grandeur of the ancient city.

Lunch follows with delicious Turkish cuisine, giving you time to relax and enjoy local flavors before continuing the journey. This comfortable break adds balance to the day, making the tour feel well paced and enjoyable rather than rushed.

After lunch, you visit the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Although only traces of the original temple remain, the significance of the site is powerful. Standing here connects you to one of antiquity’s greatest monuments and adds a rare sense of wonder to your Turkey tour experience.

The final cultural stop of the day is the IsaBey Mosque in the Selcuk area. Built as an important place of worship for the leader of the region during the Aydinid Dynasty, the mosque carries a graceful historical charm. Its stonework, quiet atmosphere, and architectural character make it a memorable closing stop after a day filled with ancient ruins, sacred places, and layered history.

At the end of the tour, your guide transfers you to your hotel in Kusadasi or Selcuk. The evening is free to rest, enjoy the local atmosphere, and prepare for the next day’s journey to the white terraces of Pamukkale.

Day 2Pamukkale/Hierapolis and Flight to Istanbul (B,L)

After breakfast, your guide picks you up from your hotel in Kuşadasi and leads you to your vehicle for the scenic drive to Pamukkale. During the approximately three-hour journey, your guide shares useful background about the region and the country, helping the landscape and history come alive before you arrive.

Upon reaching Pamukkale, lunch is served at a local restaurant, giving you a comfortable pause before the day’s sightseeing begins. After lunch, the tour enters from the top of the site at Hierapolis Ancient City, where ancient ruins and natural beauty come together in one of Turkey’s most distinctive travel experiences.

Your exploration of Hierapolis Ancient City begins with the Gymnasium, followed by the impressive Amphitheatre, which once held around 15,000 people. Walking through this ancient city gives you the feeling of moving through a living open-air museum, where stone streets, ruins, and wide views tell the story of a place once shaped by Roman culture, healing waters, and public life.

The route also includes the Temple of Apollo, one of the important sacred structures of Hierapolis. As your guide points out the significant remains along the way, the site becomes much more than a collection of ruins. It begins to feel like a city with its own rhythm, beliefs, and centuries of human presence.

After exploring Hierapolis, the experience shifts to the dazzling white terraces of Pamukkale. You remove your shoes and walk carefully along the travertines, where warm mineral-rich waters flow over smooth white surfaces. The sensation of the warm water under your feet, the brightness of the terraces, and the wide views around you create one of the most memorable moments of the tour.

There is also time to dip your feet in the natural hot springs or, if you prefer, head to the man-made hot spring baths for a relaxing swim. This part of the day feels calm, refreshing, and visually unforgettable — the kind of experience that makes Pamukkale one of the most desired highlights of a well-planned Turkey itinerary.

In the afternoon, you have free time to enjoy the site at your own pace, take photos, relax near the thermal waters, or simply absorb the unusual beauty of the white terraces. It is a gentle and memorable closing chapter to a journey that combines ancient history, sacred landmarks, Turkish culture, and one of the country’s most iconic natural wonders.

When the tour is finished, you are transferred to the airport for your one-hour flight back to Istanbul. Upon arrival, your driver meets you at the airport and takes you back to your hotel, completing a seamless 2 Days Ephesus and Pamukkale Tour filled with history, beauty, comfort, and unforgettable scenery.

Guests must be able to walk approx. 0.5 miles over the travertines without shoes.

We advise you to bring your sunglasses, sunscreen, and comfortable swimsuit with you.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this 2 Days Ephesus and Pamukkale Tour suitable for first-time visitors to Turkey?

Yes. This tour is ideal for first-time visitors who want to experience two of Turkey’s most important highlights without arranging flights, transfers, hotels, and sightseeing separately. Are flights from Istanbul included in this Ephesus and Pamukkale tour?

The itinerary includes a morning flight from Istanbul to Izmir on Day 1 and a return flight to Istanbul after the Pamukkale tour on Day 2. Can I walk on the Pamukkale travertines?

Yes. Walking on the Pamukkale travertines is part of the experience, but shoes must be removed to protect the natural white terraces. The surface can feel wet, uneven, and slippery in some areas, so travelers should walk carefully. Are meals included during the 2-day tour?

Lunch is included on Day 1 during the Ephesus Tour, and breakfast and lunch are included on Day 2 during the Pamukkale and Hierapolis program. Dinner is not mentioned in the itinerary, so the free evening in Kusadasi or Selcuk gives you time to choose a local restaurant or relax near your hotel.

A small towel and comfortable clothing can also make the visit easier.

Is this tour better for history lovers or nature lovers?

This Ephesus and Pamukkale tour works well for both. Ephesus, the Great Theater, Celsus Library, Virgin Mary House, Temple of Artemis, IsaBey Mosque, and Hierapolis offer strong historical and cultural value.
